About Kathleen Baker Metalwork

Backing away from art as a teenager, I reclaimed that interest after many years in the high tech sector and private contracting. I loved the work and the people, but they couldn’t satisfy my need to be a maker.

The sources for my work are pretty diverse. I am drawn, sometimes unexpectedly, to certain forms, patterns, colors and textures. I find words and concepts inspirational. I’ve always been curious about the relationship between adornment and self-concept, and the potential impact on individual well-being, and I'm still intrigued.

Usually I work in a series with recurring patterns and themes using precious metals and gemstones. My pieces are made entirely by hand with the exception of a few chains or clasps.
